For our Autumn concert, Epsom Choral Society will be singing Mendelssohn's great oratorio, Elijah, with outstanding soloists and orchestra. The concert will take place in St Martin's Church in Epsom on Saturday 18th November 2023 at 7:30pm. First performed in 1846 at Birmingham Town Hall, Mendelssohn's Elijah is widely regarded as one of the greatest oratorios of the Romantic era. Inspired by the biblical account of the prophet Elijah, the oratorio was composed in the spirit of Mendelssohn's baroque predecessors, Bach and Handel. Under the baton of Julian Collings, the performance will bring together a stellar cast of soloists, including soprano Elizabeth Findon, mezzo-soprano Judy Brown, tenor John Findon, and bass James Geidt.
