Epsom & Ewell Borough Council’s ‘Access to Activity' Bursary is not open - it will open for applications from Monday 30 March 2026.
The bursary is designed to tackle the financial challenges that may deter young people from taking part in regular sport and offers eligible applicants up to £200 to help fund, or partly fund sports club memberships, sports subscriptions or match fees.
The bursary is open from Monday 30 March 2026 until Wednesday 31 March 2027, or until all funding has been allocated.
The Access to Activity Bursary supports the aims of our Health and Wellbeing Strategy (2025-2028), which focuses on increasing physical activity, improving wellbeing and reducing health inequalities in Epsom and Ewell.
About the bursary
This is a one-off grant with priority given to eligible residents based on the criteria set out below. All grants are awarded at the council’s discretion. There is no right of appeal for unsuccessful applications. The council reserves the right to close the bursary scheme to new applications at any time.
Who can apply?
Applications to the bursary must be made by a parent or legal guardian:
Eligible applicants must:
- live in the borough of Epsom & Ewell
- are 12 to 15 years old
- are in receipt of free school meals* and/or
- have parents or guardians who are in receipt of Universal Credit payments*
* Supporting evidence confirming receipt of free school meals or Universal Credit will be required in the form of a letter from school or a recent Universal Credit online statement.
The bursary will also consider young people living in Epsom & Ewell who are living, or have previously lived, in care.
Sports clubs participating in the bursary, and community and charitable organisations based in the borough, can also direct parents and young people, who meet the criteria, to sign-up to the bursary.
How to apply
If the 12-15 year old is eligible for the bursary, please:

Arrange a taster session directly with your chosen sports club (select from the list of participating sports clubs listed below.

Following the taster, if the young person wishes to enrol at the club, please complete an application form - details are below within the 'Access to Activity Bursary Application Form' section.

Epsom & Ewell Borough Council will contact the applicant's parent or legal guardian to confirm next steps.
If the application is successful, participants, or their parent/legal guardian, will be asked to contact the sports club directly to enrol. The Council is not responsible for the content of external websites.
