Changes to services on 19 September 2022

A day of mourning for Queen Elizabeth II

Monday 19 September, the date of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's State Funeral, will be a national bank holiday. This will allow individuals, businesses and other organisations to pay their respects to Her Majesty and commemorate Her reign, while marking the final day of the period of national mourning. 

Venues and events

Events on Monday 19 September have been cancelled at the following venues:

  • Epsom Playhouse. This venue will be closed all day.
  • Bourne Hall. This venue will be closed all day.
  • Epsom Downs Racecourse will be closed from midday.
  • All sports facilities, including Rainbow Leisure Centre, will be closed and pavilion bookings have been cancelled.
  • Hook Road Car Park will be closed and locked all day. Alternative parking is available at the Ashley Centre Car Park.  

Bourne Hall History Day on 17 September has also been cancelled. 

Refuse and recycling 

There will not be any refuse or garden waste collection on Monday 19 September. 

  • Refuse, recycling, glass and food waste collections that were scheduled for 19 September will take place on Monday 26 September. We will then collect excess waste that is left out for us in bags by your bins (or large cardboard items separately next to your bin as normal).
  • Garden waste collections will take place on 3 October. Up to two bags of excess garden waste will also be collected. Please place any excess bags next to your garden waste bin. 
  • If you live in a flat and usually have refuse collected on Mondays, this collection will now take place on Tuesday 20 September. 

Community services

  • The Community and Wellbeing Centre will be closed on 19 September.
  • Transport services will not operate on this day. 
  • Community alarm will operate an out of hours service. 
  • Meals at home clients will be offered frozen meals for 19 September if required.
  • Higher needs clients will be offered another day at the centre.

Committee meetings 

The following committee meetings will be rescheduled: 

  • Audit and Scrutiny Committee, 15 September, 7.30pm will no longer take place. Items scheduled for this meeting will be considered by the Committee’s next meeting on 17 November.
  • Strategy and Resources Committee, 20 September, 7.30pm will no longer take place. Items scheduled for this meeting will be considered by the Committee at its Special Meeting on 29 September.
