We adopted The Core Strategy on 24 July 2007. Together with the adopted Development Management Policies these documents set out the key policies that will be used to determine the location, amount, type and timing of new development within the borough in the period up to 2022.

We submitted the Core Strategy to the Secretary of State for examination. An independent Inspector considered the soundness of the document at a public hearing in April 2007. The Inspector's Report was received in May 2007 and subject to some minor changes found the Core Strategy to be sound. The full Inspector's report can be seen on the Core Strategy information page.
