Furniture and bulky waste

What is this service for?

This service is for waste that is too large or heavy to fit into your bins, such as furniture, fridges, freezers and washing machines.

Please note that some items (such as pianos, for example) cannot be collected, as they can be difficult to load onto our vehicles. Please check with us when you make your booking.

Can my old furniture or electrical items be reused or recycled?

The Surrey Reuse Network works with various charities to reuse and recycle good quality furniture and electrical items.

Taking bulky waste to the tip

Bulky items can also be taken to the Community Recycling Centre, Blenheim Road, where they may be recycled, depending on type.

If I cannot recycle my bulky waste, can the Council collect it?

We can collect bulky waste for a charge. Click the link to request a collection and pay online. A 50% discount is available for recipients of certain means-tested benefits. Proof of eligibility will be required. Where appropriate, we may need to provide an individual quote for unusual items or for the collection of large quantities of material. We will arrange to visit you to view the items if necessary.

Please note:

  • Payments made by credit card are subject to a 1.5% charge
  • You can pay by cheque in person at the Town Hall. If posting cheques please attach a note clearly stating what the payment is for. Do not post cash
  • Once booked and paid for, bulky waste collections are non-refundable.

Bulky waste collections are made between 6.30am and 5pm. Please ensure that your items are out for collection by 6.30am. Please note that the service is suspended for two weeks over Christmas and New Year.

Garden waste recycling

Individual loads of garden waste can be collected on a recycling-only basis. Again, costs will vary dependent on the amount of waste you wish to dispose of. We may first require each request to be assessed by our Operational Services department. We will not be able to offer a collection service for garden waste unless it is uncontaminated and fully suitable for recycling (organic garden waste only, no plastics or other non-organic waste, no branches thicker than three inches/7.5 centimetres).
