Benches and seats

There are approximately 400 seats and benches.  We will inspect defects within a day and rectify within a week.

Bus Shelters

There are approximately 70 bus shelters.  We will deal with defects within the following timescales:

  • emergency damage 4 hours
  • removal of broken glass 4 hours
  • offensive graffiti 1 working day
  • glazing repairs 3 working days
  • lighting fault 3 working days
  • routine cleaning town centres every 10 working days
  • routine cleaning elsewhere every 20 working days

Dog bins

There are approximately 100 dog bins. They are emptied at least three times a week.

Litter bins

There are approximately 400 litter bins they should be emptied before they are three quarters full.  All bins are emptied at least three times a week and some are emptied every day.

Noticeboards

There are approximately 20 public notice boards.  Damaged boards will be repaired within 5 working days.

Planters

There are approximately 20 planters adjoining the highway.  They are planted with trees or shrubs.  We will repair a damaged planter within 15 working days.

Playgrounds

There are 19 children’s playgrounds and they are inspected each day.

Railings

Railings on the highway are the responsibility of Surrey County Council.  We are responsible for railings in parks.

Signs

We are responsible for signs in parks and off street car parks and within the cartilage of Borough Council buildings and for the road signs at borough boundaries.  Surrey County Council are responsible for road signs.

Street name plates

We will replace damaged nameplates within six weeks.

We are not responsible for replacing street nameplates on private roads and streets.

Street lights

There are approximately 8000 street lights.  Those on the public highway are the responsibility of Surrey County Council. They will inspect a defective light within one week.  Time for repair depends on the defect.  Lights in off street car parks, some of those in public parks and some of those on the Longmead and Ruxley estates are our responsibility.  We will inspect a defective light within one week. Walls and Fences

We are responsible for maintaining many though not all of the fences adjoining Council owned land.
