Graffiti

We will remove racist or obscene graffiti by the end of the next working day.  Other graffiti will be removed as resources allow.

Litter and street cleansing

We are responsible for removing litter.  We have a team of 12 operatives who use 4 vehicles.  We operate 7 days a week.  Major roads and town centres are cleansed at least 3 times per week.  Other areas are swept and litter picked as required or on request.

We do not sweep private forecourts, private roads or unadopted roads.

Please use this form for other cleansing issues such as chemical spillage, medical waste, dog fouling, leaves etc.

Fly posting

We will remove fly posting from Council owned property within 2 working days.

Fly tipping on private land
If the person responsible for the flytip, or the owner of the refuse, cannot be identified the refuse becomes the responsibility of the owner(s) of the land.

Private land includes unadopted alleyways which are the joint responsibility of the owners of all properties with direct access onto the alleyway.

If there is an environmental health nuisance, statutory Environmental Health notices can be served on the owner(s) of the land or refuse.

The penalties for flytipping

Flytipping is illegal. Offenders can be:

  • Fined up to £20,000 or receive 6 months' imprisonment
  • Fined an unlimited amount if the case goes to the County Court and face up to 2 years' imprisonment (up to 5 years' for hazardous waste).
