The Environmental Character Study is an important piece of research in helping the Council and the public understand the character of the Borough. The study has been undertaken by Atkins on behalf of the Council.
The Character Study comprises an assessment of the existing townscape character, together with policy recommendations targeted at preserving and enhancing character. The study is intended to be used as a working tool in planning for current and future development within the Borough, and to ensure that the aspects of positive local distinctiveness are protected and enhanced. In particular, the study will feed into the development of the Borough's planning policies.
The study is focussed on the built up areas of the Borough, excluding Epsom town centre and the designated conservation areas.
