How do I make an application for planning approval?
You can apply through the Planning Portal – www.planningportal.gov.uk or directly to the Council.
There are several types of application as described below:

For works to individual dwellings or where you wish to change the use of land or buildings. You must normally start the development within 3 years of permission being granted. |

A minimal level of detail (the extent would depend on how many aspects of the proposal are ‘reserved’ for future consideration.) |
Where you wish to find out whether the development is acceptable in principle before detailed drawings are prepared. This type of application is best suited to larger applications where the principle of the development may be controversial. You must submit an application in respect of ‘reserved matters’ within 3 years of outline permission being granted. |

Detailed drawings in respect of matters ‘reserved’ under a previous outline consent. |
For the approval of manners such as siting, design, external appearance, means of access and landscaping following approval of an outline application. You must normally start the development within 2 years of the final reserved matter being approved being granted. |

Listed Building Consent |
Detailed drawings and a written justification for the works. |
When your proposal involves works to a listed building |

Conservation Area Consent |
A drawn/photographic survey of the building/ structure affected and a plan of the site. |
Where your proposal involves substantial demolition of a structure within a Conservation Area. |

Certificate of Lawful Development |
In addition to the plans of the proposed/ existing development, the argument for the lawfulness of the development should be included. |
Where you want to be certain that existing development is lawful for planning purposes or that your proposal does not require planning permission. |

Advertisement Consent |
Full details of the nature and location of the advertisement/sign for which consent is required. |
For the erection of certain categories of advertisement/sign |

Works to Trees |
Description of works intended to be carried out including a map/sketch of area. |
Where you want to carry out work on a tree in a Conservation Area or where it is covered by a Tree Preservation Order. |
