The Council has jointly undertaken a study with Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead and Tandridge Councils which has looked at the needs of Gypsies and Travellers and Travelling Showmen in the East Surrey area.
A steering group was established which used the results of this study to inform the number and distribution of new pitches for Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showmen in each of the four districts over the next ten years.
A partial review of the South East Plan is being undertaken specifically to consider this issue and the South East of England Regional Assembly (SEERA) requested that all local authorities in the region provide advice on the amount and distribution of caravan pitches that should be made.
This advice has now been agreed by the four East Surrey authorities and was submitted to SEERA on 15 October 2007. The advice that was submitted can be viewed below:
