YLD Xtreme
More than 1,000 young people braved the rain at Rosebery Park on Saturday 11 July to enjoy the fun, sports and music of YLD Xtreme. Organised by local young people with a little help from the Leisure Developments Team at Epsom & Ewell Borough Council, the annual event was once again a huge hit.

Youth Leisure Day (YLD) provided young people with a free day of entertainment, while letting them know about the many opportunities and activities available for them throughout the Borough.
Following feedback from last year's YLD and consultation with youth throughout 2008, this years's event had young people at the heart of both the organisation and delivery of the day. A young person's steering group was set up with representatives from across the Borough and one of their first decisions was a new location. Twenty people volunteered their time on the day to ensure that YLD Xtreme was the best yet.
Live music, activities, taster sessions, stalls and workshops featured in various spaces around the park. There were plenty of active young people willing to try different sports, sumo wrestling, new dance moves and ride a wild rodeo bull. On a quieter note some got an air brush tattoo, visited a stall and caught up with friend.

A 'have your say tent' offered participants a chance to say what they would do if they were Mayor for a day, Chief of Police or even Prime Minister. They answered questions on public transport and youth issues by writing post cards, placing stickers on posters and using interactive handheld devices.
The Council will share the feedback from the 'have your say tent' with its partners and look at ways to address some of the issues our young people are facing.
If you would like to host a stall or activity, sponsor, be part of the steering group or volunteer your time for YLD 2010, please get in touch.
