Free Tennis Coaching!!
Tennis For Free is an initiative that was set up by comedian and author Tony Hawks and fashion executive Cecil Hollwey in 2003. Following a chance meeting on a long flight, Tony and Cecil discovered that they shared a common frustration at the sight of seeing so many public tennis courts in Britain empty.
Their mission is to increase participation in tennis nationwide for all ages regardless of ability, background, race and financial circumstance. The overriding aim of Tennis For Free (TFF) is to provide FREE access to community tennis courts in local recreation parks for as wide a range of the UK population as possible. TFF is working in partnership with Epsom & Ewell Borough Council to achieve the goal of providing free professional coaching sessions and equipment within the Borough.
Tennis for Free is running free coaching at two sites every Saturday across Epsom & Ewell.
10am - 12pm at Alexandra Recreation Ground
1pm - 3pm at Court Recreation Ground
All families and friends are invited to come along and join in for free. All equipment is provided, all you need to bring is yourselves!
At Alexandra Recreation Ground, a friends of group for Tennis for Free has been formed. Alex Rec Racqueteers help to run the fun and friendly sessions and are looking to sustain and continue with the sessions. For more information on Alex Rec Racqueteers, please visit their website.
Tennis Courts
There are also free tennis courts available across the Borough for anyone to go to and play tennis for free. These are located at:
Alexandra Recreation Ground, Alexandra Road (three courts)
Court Recreation Ground, off Pound Lane (three courts)
Poole Road Recreation Ground, Poole Road (two courts)
Gibraltar Recreation Ground, West Street (two courts)
Auriol Park, Salisbury Road (two courts) - currently closed.
Allplay
If you need help finding your local courts or somebody to play with, visit www.allplaytennis.com. You can search for people in your area of a similar standard who are looking for a game and even contact them to get started. It’s all part of Allplay, a national campaign from the Lawn Tennis Association, to help get more people playing tennis.
