There are currently three Local Nature Reserves (LNR) in Epsom & Ewell. These are Epsom Common LNR
, Horton Country Park LNR
and the Hogsmill LNR
. Each reserve has its own unique characteristics and is managed by Epsom & Ewell Borough Council to ensure that biodiversity is protected and enhanced and that there is good public access.
The Council's Countryside Team and Ranger Service both play important roles in managing the reserves. By patrolling, the Ranger Service provide safety and security along with day to day repairs and maintenance, whilst the Countryside Team manage biodiversity, improve public access and foster appreciation of the nature reserves.
The Countryside Team works with local residents to improve the reserves through a programme of volunteer tasks, an annual programme of countryside walks and events, managing the Information Centre at Horton Country Park and producing leaflets and other interpretive material for each site.
