Home Repair Assistance Grants

What is a Home Repair Assistance Grant and could it help me?

Home Repair Assistance Grants are available to owner occupiers and tenants for works which will prevent hospitalisation, or which will reduce the need for additional health care for the applicant.  Also, where owner-occupiers are in imminent danger due to the condition of their home, Home Repair Assistance may be available.  The application is subject to a means test.

The maximum grant available is £5000. Examples of work undertaken are as follows:-

•  Works relating to water penetration.
•  Individual window replacement if the window is beyond repair.

What is the process?

The first stage of the process is for to you to complete a grant enquiry form.  If you require assistance in completing the form, please telephone 01372 732000.

The grant is means tested and this form will enable us to give you a preliminary indication as to whether you would have to pay anything towards the cost of the works.

What happens then?

Once we have received your enquiry form, we will carry out the means test and advise you of the results.  We would then visit you at home to assess the work you require to your property and establish if the work can be grant aided.

Before the application is taken further, you will then be asked to provide the following:-

•  Supporting documents relating to your income and savings
•  Proof of title/mortgage consent, or landlord consent if you are a tenant
•  *Two estimates for the work

*Estimates can be obtained by your appointed surveyor, whose fees can be included in the grant.
