Home Repair Assistance Grants

Home Repair Assistance Grants are discretionary and are available to prevent hospitalization, or to reduce the need for additional health care for the applicant.

The maximum grant available is £1000, including surveyor fees and VAT. Only one grant may be awarded to an applicant in a three year period.

The types of work for which you may receive a grant include:

• Replacing loose and insecure tiles and slates
• Resurfacing defective flat roofs
• Replacement or repair of gutters and down pipe
• Repairs to defective windows and doors
• Renewal of defective electrical wiring
• Replacement of defective plumbing eg supply pipe work, cold water storage tank, hot water cylinder, electric water heaters and gas boilers
• Repair or renewal of hazardous paving
• Repair of defective stairs and floors
• Repair to guarding on balconies
• Repair to defective window catches, safety devices or opening lights.

Eligibility Criteria – Applicants will need to be :

• Over 18 Years of Age
• An owner-occupier
• Have a power or duty to carry out the works
• Be on a means tested benefit.
