We offer free and confidential housing advice to any resident of the Borough with a housing problem.
We will inform people of their housing rights and options and try to prevent homelessness wherever possible. We provide information, advice and assistance on a wide range of housing and welfare benefit-related issues through in-depth casework, mediation and advocacy.
The Housing Advice Service offers advice and information on:
- homelessness or threatened homelessness;
- rent and mortgage arrears;
- tenants' rights and responsibilities;
- welfare benefits;
- harassment and illegal eviction;
- local housing options;
- possession proceedings;
- relationship breakdown;
- housing needs register;
- mediation service;
- housing debt counselling;
- accommodation finding, deposit and tenancy sustainment scheme
How to get in touch
Housing Advice interviews are available by appointment and can be arranged by telephoning 01372 732436.
The duty housing officer is available at the Town Hall to give general advice and assistance. Office opening times are Monday to Friday, 9.00am-4.30pm. All enquires without an appointment will be seen on a first come, first served basis.
Home visits are possible for clients who are unable to come to the Town Hall.
Signing and language interpretation services are available with prior notification.
