Air Quality in Ewell High Street
Following the 2007 Detailed Assessment of Air Quality in Ewell High Street
the Council declared an Air Quality Management Area. Copies of the official order and the accompanying map are available at the Town Hall.
The Council is now planning to install a continuous air monitoring point to accurately record the levels of nitrogen dioxide in this location. This will be followed by a further report setting out options for improving air quality in this area.
We also take part in the UK Nitrogen Dioxide network and our results, compared with other locations throughout the country, are available at the UK National Air Quality Information Archive.
Results of air quality monitoring since 1999 are available here
We issue permits to industries in the borough that are potentially polluting under the Pollution Prevention and Control Act 1999 and ensure that emissions are kept within government standards.
Currently 18 different processes have been permitted, details are available here. The full public register is available for inspection at the Town Hall, Epsom.
Bonfires
Smoke from bonfires can constitute a statutory nuisance and we can take action to deal with it where appropriate.
Burning wood or other rubbish on building sites may also be in contravention of planning or site rules and will be investigated.
