The canvass for the 2011 Register of Electors has now started. For information about the canvass and how to complete your registration form please go the 2010 canvass page. 

European Parliament: Caroline Lucas has resigned as MEP for the South East Region as a result of her becoming a Member of Parliament for Brighton and Hove so the next person on the party list ie Keith Taylor automatically becomes the MEP in her place.


Rwanda has just joined the Commonwealth. All citizens of Rwanda who are resident in Great Britain and have any type of leave to remain in the United Kingdom will fulfil the nationality qualification for electoral registration from 10 March 2010. Applications to register can be accepted from 10 March 2010 and once registered Rwandan citizens will be eligible to vote at both Parliamentary and Local Government elections.

The Electoral Commission is an independent body that was set up by the UK Parliament.  Their aim is to foster public confidence and participation in the democratic process in the UK.

The Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA) is a professional body representing the interests of electoral administrators in the United Kingdom

The Ministry of Justice is the government department with responsibility for democracy. Responsibilities include law and policy on running elections and modernising the constitution.

The Department of Constitutional Affairs was the government department previously responsible for democracy. Archive information is still available on their website.  The change of responsibility to the Ministry of Justice was made in May 2007.
