Youth Mentoring Scheme

Epsom and Ewell Borough Council's Youth Mentoring Scheme would like to hear from people aged 18 and over who would like to work with young people in preventing them from falling into a life of crime or anti-social behaviour.

Following the success of the Mentoring scheme since its launch two years ago, more volunteers are now needed to encourage young people and help build their self confidence. Each young person is teamed up with a mentor and they meet regularly to discuss the young person's ideas, problems and goals.

Volunteers only need to be able to offer a couple of hours twice a month, to meet a young person. Each volunteer will receive full training, support and police checks before starting. Application forms need to be completed and returned to Scheme Coordinator by Friday 3 April.

Training sessions will begin in April 2009. Anyone is welcome to sign up, provided that they are able to travel to Epsom or Ewell to meet with the young person.

  • The Strategy explains how the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership plans to make Epsom and Ewell a safer place to live.

We recognise that antisocial behaviour is one of the major community safety concerns and, as part of the Community Safety Strategy, will produce an Antisocial Behaviour action plan, giving priority to crimes that cause a disproportionate fear of crime to provide public reassurance.

We also recognise that antisocial behaviour is not just related to the young, and will target all individuals whose behaviour is antisocial.  In addition to looking at provision for young people, focus will be given to areas including traffic, road safety and criminal damage.
